Cimarron Railroad Exhibit Surrounded by the soaring walls of the Cimarron River Canyon, the magnificently restored Locomotive 278 sits on an 1882 Denver & Rio Grande trestle - the last remaining structure from the former Black Canyon route of the Rio grande Narrow Gauge. Montrose County Historical Museum This museum was founded in 1964 by the Montrose County Historical Society. The collection focuses on the pioneering and settling of Western Colorado. While visiting the museum you will also see a caboose, a stagecoach and vintage machinery and equipment. The museum is open mid May through mid October. Ute Indian Museum and Ouray Memorial Park Experience one of the most complete collections and interpretations of the Ute people. This museum sits on 8.65 acres of the original plot of land where Chief Ouray and his wife, Chipeta, lived. On site there are exhibits, a gift store, American Indian books and changing gallery space.
